Be sure to research your own state and local laws regarding starting, owning, and operating a business in your area. There are laws and taxes at the federal, state, and county/local level. Many areas require you to get a permit for operating a business from your home – even if your business is virtual. Unfortunately, claiming ignorance will not remove your responsibility (nor will it absolve you of paying hefty penalties and fines!). Ensure you contact all required government entities about the requirements for business owners in your specific area and location.
